Final Push For A New Roof At Gemeinschaft

Just got this photo from Jennifer Jacovitch at Gemeinschaft.

As a member of Gemeinschaft Home's Fundraising and Public Relations Committee, I offered to contact as many friends as possible to help raise the projected $33,000 needed to replace the roof on the main building and repair the front porch. Unfortunately, some structural and insulation issues may increase the originally estimated costs.

So far the response to this "Raising the Roof Campaign" has been a gratifying $12,450 in outright gifts, and an additional $13,000 in three-year, interest free loans of $1000 each, leaving us with the challenge of raising the final sum of at least $7300.

Here's where you come in. Your generous response can help Gemeinschaft reach its goal by the time the project is completed, which should be by midsummer. Gifts are most appreciated, but a loan can be a pain-free way to help, and you will get all your money back in three years.

The "interest" you earn will be priceless.

You Can Help Gemeinschaft Home's "Raise The Roof" Campaign With A $1000 Loan

Here's a  low-cost and pain-free way to help a good cause.
Gemeinschaft Home just approved installing a much needed new metal roof  on the back of the house that should last for a lifetime. To raise the $33,000 needed for this project, which also includes some necessary work on the front porch, we are soliciting three-year, interest-free loans of $1000 or more, all to be repaid by the end of 2020. Of course, outright gifts of any amount are also welcomed and appreciated!

As a member of Gemeinschaft's Networking and Fundraising Committee, I have agreed to promote this financing effort, one I hope to have completed by the end of this month.

We did a similar "loan-raising" campaign in 2011 to fund an efficient furnace system to heat and provide hot water for the Home, which has resulted in significant cost savings to the program. At the end of the three year period everyone who loaned money was repaid in full from a fund that Gemeinschaft created and added to for this purpose each month (Some individuals chose at the end to turn their loan into a gift).

We would like to raise the necessary commitments in gifts or loans in the next several weeks if possible. You can write a check for $1000 or more with "roof project" in the memo line and mail it to Gemeinschaft Home, P.O. Box 288, Harrisonburg, VA 22803. You will then receive a promissory note for the full amount to be redeemed in December, 2020, if you wish.

Please check the Gemeinschaft website or call 434-1690 for more information.

Thanks in advance for your generous help!

Be A Solar Sponsor: And Help Gemeinschaft Save $5000 a Year!

Today, Give Solar is kicking off our campaign to help Gemeinschaft Home to go solar!  In May, Green Hill Solar, with the help of solar barn raising volunteers, will install a 26.2 kilowatt solar system on the roof of Gemeinschaft.  The solar array will help Gemeinschaft save $5000 per year for the next 25-30 years.

The mission of Gemeinschaft Home is to provide cutting edge therapeutic services to nonviolent offenders who have been released or diverted from incarceration in support of a transition to healthy community living. They have been playing a crucial role in this community since 1985.

Will you help Gemeinschaft go solar?  We are looking for 300 people to donate $20 to $30 to help make this happen.  In addition, we are looking for sponsors such as businesses, churches, and community organizations.  Sponsors are asked to give a larger donation to help make this project possible.  The total fundraising goal is $28,000.  Through grant funding and early contributions, we have already raised $11,000.

Thank you for your support of Gemeinschaft Home. Donate here. Together, we can do this!
